AWC Introduction to Inflatable Kayaks/Packrafts

Saturday, June 7 2025 9:00am (4 hrs)

This river inflatable kayaking clinic will focus on the following:

  • necessary equipment and attire, choosing and maintaining

  • inflatable kayaks, kinds, care, rigging for optimal performance

  • loading for longer trips, tips and tricks

  • river safety in general, and flipping and recovering an inflatable

  • basic strokes: paddle grip, sweep, backstroke, and forward stroke, low brace

  • if desired, more sophisticated strokes: draws, sculls, “Duffek”, surfing

  • applicability of strokes to flow in the river: eddy turns and ferrying

  • river reading and running

Prerequisites: None

Clinic Cost: $40.00

ACA (American Canoe Association) Event Insurance: $10/person for non-ACA members (this is mandatory!!)

If you are an ACA member, event insurance is included in your membership. Please provide your ACA membership number in the form when registering.

All participants must sign the ACA online waiver. A parent or guardian must sign the online waiver for anyone under the age of 18.

Equipment needed: Inflatable Kayak, paddle, type III PFD, whitewater helmet (bicycle helmets not allowed), whistle, footwear that will protect your feet (no flip-flops), appropriate clothing for cold water and changing conditions, lunch/snacks and water, sun protection, a change of clothes.
