Special Election - Call for Nominations - announced Jan 27, 2022
Due to various life experiences, three AWC Board Members have resigned. We extend our appreciation to Marie Blatnik, Carmen Winn and Jamie Phillips for their service.
We now have three vacancies for two-year terms. The current Board (President Scott Carpenter, Adam Hill, Treasurer Chad Morris, Vice President Dave Patterson, Donna Koechner, Norm Gaume and Steve Mathias) has chosen to follow a typical election process by asking for nominations and self-nominations. Candidates must be a resident of New Mexico and have held membership in the Club continuously since June 1, 2021.
Board Member responsibilities include leading or being a liaison with leaders of a Club effort, such as pool sessions, river clean-ups, clinics, boat inventory, monthly presentations, website and the Mothers Day Races. The clinics, pool sessions and Mothers Day Races particularly need support. Board Members are also required to attend Board Meetings (potentially monthly) and take on action items.
Nominations:
Are due by Friday, February 11, 2022, three days after the next monthly AWC program on Tuesday, February 8 (details below).
Are to be submitted to the AWC Board at board@adobewhitewater.org.
Should be accompanied by an approximately 300-word description by the candidate of his or her desire to contribute to the club by joining the AWC Board, as well as interest in boating, experience boating, and experience with AWC.
We appreciate nominations earlier than the deadline so that the vetting process can begin sooner. We anticipate getting the ballot out - by e-mail - on Tuesday, February 15, with a deadline for return by Friday, February 25. Further instructions will be given with the ballot. Remember, only one ballot can be returned per membership.
Volunteer Opportunities
AWC begins preparing this time of year for clinics and for the Mothers Day Races in May. In addition to the Board, it takes a boatload of people to fill all the positions needed to carry of these events, as well as the other club activities including pool sessions, river clean-ups, instruction, boat inventory, monthly presentations and the website and social media.
We can use your assistance, whether it be maintaining a portion of our website (we'll teach you), making phone calls, sending e-mails, checking in people at clinics or pool sessions, setting, judging and/or removing gates for the Mothers Day Races, managing an AWC booth at an event, handling AWC merchandise sales and ordering, or a myriad of other possibilities. Those with a journalistic bent may want to acquire and write articles of interest to the boating community. Current ACA-certified instructors are especially needed for clinics and pool sessions. While doing your tasks, you'll meet AWC leaders, fellow boaters and help protect our rivers.
